Temperance Hall presents six contemporary dance works by experimental choreographers who disparately and rigorously explore multitudes of 'queer'. Presented over two weeks, Temperance Hall's first week of programming presents work by Mitch Spadaro, =w=, and Rachael Wisby. "These artists talk to the way queerness moves around as 'experiences' of beauty, decay, chaos and morality, to determine and convey their own internal politics within the domains of popular culture and materialism." - Phillip Adams, Artistic Director Temperance Hall Slow City Moving, by Mitch Spadaro Slow City Moving highlights the art of subtle protest. Embodying principles of the slow city movement, the work explores the act of honouring the present while turning to psychotherapeutic principles to aid in movement generation. Odd to be beings, by =w= Odd to be beings, is a contemporary dance duet created and present by =w= and their dance teacher, Coco Li, a significant influence on =w='s artistry and growth as an artist. The work delves into the intricacy of human connection, and unravels threads of randomness that grow and evolve. Together they navigate the abnormality of existence, examine the intersections of life with other, and contemplate the essence of continuity and change. Sybylla, by Rachael Wisby A solo for more than one - by every body for every body. Sybylla consults the body as more than matter, moving aside what is understood within the mind to be the self, and letting the body make the work. The body's interior is poured out into the visual space as the sincerity of each organ is consulted to make the dance. Sybylla finds movements that attempt physical honesty to glimpse what the body itself might find true, manifested as an action without false pretence. The body asks itself to reveal its true essence by falsifying the concealment of its motives. She says it is kind of like a double negative - by faking what is false, the action becomes true.
