"Am I your something old?" Sutton's life, meticulously chosen, is a testament to her aspirations. The white picket fence, a husband, three children; these were the chapters she wrote for herself. But amidst her well thought out life plan was something Sutton could never have accounted for...Dana. Today is Sutton's wedding day. Dana has been invited but Dan will be in attendance. Dan who was once Dana. Bugs Baschera brings an abundance of joy & euphoria to the role of Dan. Beyond their impressive credits, Bugs is a passionate advocate for the Trans community, using their platform to amplify diverse voices in the arts. Evie Korver embodies Sutton with sensitivity, empathy and care. As a queer woman herself, she feels proud to tell this queer coming-of-age. ALTAR is directed by Alanah Guiry with design by Kyra Ryan & Sam Diamond. Join us for a limited one-week engagement to an emotional pilgrimage that will leave you breathless! ALTAR was originally commissioned by Midsumma Festival and developed in residency with Abbotsford Convent for Midsumma 2023. ALTAR's premiere is Presented by Midsumma Festival, Abbotsford Convent and Em Tambree. The development and presentation of this project is proudly supported by Midsumma Pathways, a mentorship and career development program for disabled LGBTQIA+ artists. ALTAR is Em Tambree's playwriting debut. ALTAR serves as a heartfelt ode to Em Tambree's own lived experience growing up queer under the influence of an Evangelical Mega-Church in Rural Queensland.
